(6.21km Loop – Grade 3, Moderate)
If you’re looking for an adventure that
combines stunning bushland, serene swimming spots, and an invigorating hike,
Kingfisher Pool via the Bullawarring and Mooray Tracks is the perfect choice.
Nestled in Heathcote National Park, this experience is a manageable day trip
from Leppington, NSW, and is well worth the effort.
Getting There
From Leppington, it’s roughly a 45-minute
drive to Bullawarring Track, Waterfall. We did roadside parking on Warabin
Street, Waterfall where the trailheads for the Bullawarring and Mooray Tracks
are located. The walk to Kingfisher Pool is approximately 3.5 km each way and
can take about 1.5 to 2 hours depending on your pace.
The Tracks: Bullawarring and Mooray
The Bullawarring Track begins with a gentle
descent into the rugged beauty of Heathcote National Park. Expect a mix of
rocky terrain, uneven paths, and some steep sections, making sturdy footwear
essential. The trail winds through dense eucalyptus forest, with occasional
breaks revealing stunning sandstone formations and small creeks.
As you approach Kingfisher Pool, the Mooray
Track branches off, offering a slightly less challenging route to return or
explore further. Both tracks are well-marked, but carrying a map or GPS is
advisable for first-time visitors.
The Destination: Kingfisher Pool
Kingfisher Pool is a tranquil waterhole
surrounded by lush vegetation. The stillness of the water reflects the towering
trees above, creating a perfect setting to unwind. The pool is ideal for a
refreshing swim on warm days or just dipping your toes in while you enjoy the
natural surroundings.
There’s also a nearby campground if you want to extend your
adventure overnight. However, remember to book your spot in advance through the NSW National Parks website.
